Finally made it….

Well, Dave & I have at least.  Have to say I love Klopeiner See – clean, friendly with a lovely chilled out atmosphere.  We finally arrived at our guesthouse around 1pm.  Inge, our host, has made us very welcome – even given us a spare room to store the extra heli stuff in & has told us we can use her garage if we need it to work in (lovely & cool).  Hopefully we won’t have any need for any major rebuilding – planning to keep all models in one piece!!! (Hope I haven’t jinxed it by saying that).

We spent most of the afternoon driving round the various sites – the 2 main competition sites (only 5 minutes from where we’re staying) and the practise sites most of which are a max. 10-15 mins away.  There still seems to be quite a bit of work to do at the main site – they were in the process of putting up a HUGE marquee whilst we were there.  I’m sure everything will be ready for the first day of registration on Friday.

Found the Americans & Steffano Lucci of the Italian F3C team practising at a random field (not one of the official practise sites but who cares!).  The German & Swiss F3C teams, including the current F3C World Champion, Ennio Graber, were at another site.  Good to catch up & say hello with everyone.  Bumped into Mike Gilfillan, the GBR F3C team manager who had decided to walk between the practise sites to the north of the lake – I personally thought he was mad in this heat but he said he needed to walk off his lunch!

The forecast for the next 10 days is for temperatures in the low 30 degrees C with some rain forecast at the moment for next Thursday 9th.  Winds forecast to be no more than 6mph!! Perfect.

As evening came, we decided to cool off by taking a dip in the lake – a great way to end the day.  The rest of the team have an early start tomorrow leaving Heathrow at 6am.  They will arrive in Vienna at 9.20am where they will then pick up hire cars & drive south to Klopeinersee hopefully arriving early afternoon.  Then the hard work really begins but it’s nothing we’re not ready for.
